Professor Badaplin War is a Linguist, Translator, Litterateur, Educationist and now a Padma Shri Award winner. She completed her PhD in Linguistics from the University of London and her areas of Interest and/or Specialization are Khasi Morphology, Phonology, Sociolinguistics; Literature in translation; Khasi Literature; Khasi Culture.
She joined the Department of Khasi, North-Eastern Hill University as Lecturer in 1983 becoming a Reader in 1996 and eventually a Professor in 2001. She has nine books to her name and as you would expect, she has presented numerous papers both nationally and internationally
Some of her academic affiliations include being Founder President, Society for Khasi Studies, Member, Advisory Committee, State Literary Award, Government of Meghalaya, Treasurer, Khasi Authors’ Society and Member, Main Committee to look into the matters for inclusion of the Khasi Language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India, Arts and Culture Department, Government of Meghalaya among others.
She was awarded the Padma Shri by the President of India on the eve of Republic Day 2022 for her contribution in the fields of literature and education
