On the auspicious occasion of Meghalaya turning 50 years old it is only right that we try to cherish and preserve this year and years gone by, through a tangible way.
The Directorate of Information and Public Relations along with The Northeast India AV Archive will make a Memory Crate to be locked on the 50th year of Meghalaya Day i.e. the 21st of January 2022. This "Memory Crate" will be a time capsule to be sealed and then be opened 50 years from now on 21st January 2072'.
The idea of a time capsule is not a new one, by definition it is a container to preserve and capture key moments in history for the benefit of our future generation. This Crate however is much more substantial as it will include representation from all districts of the State.
It will contain the following:
The Crate will be a wooden box (3’x3’x5’) enclosed in a glass case to be placed in the New Legislative Assembly building. The Chest will not only be of nostalgic value when it is reopened but the contents will be a great yardstick to gauge the development of the State.
